Philip Bradford

Detector Scientist

Philip obtained his PhD from the University of York in 2021, specializing in laser-generated electromagnetic fields. Over the next three years he worked as a post-doctoral researcher in the UK and France, where he continued his research into the laser-induced charging of solid and gaseous targets, laser-driven electromagnetic fields and magnetized plasmas for inertial confinement fusion. In 2024, Philip joined the CLF, designing ion and neutron detectors for EPAC’s second experimental area. His current role is to develop diagnostics for both the Vulcan 20-20 and EPAC facilities.

Philip is a work package manager with the Laserlab EMP Expert group and he sits on the editorial board of the High Power Laser Science and Engineering journal. He has worked as principal and co-investigator on range of projects at high power laser facilities in the UK and Europe.

Research Interests: laser-generated electromagnetic pulses (EMP) and terahertz radiation, laser-driven ion acceleration, magnetized plasmas, plasma diagnostics
