Steve Hook is the CLF’s Chief Engineer, heading up its Engineering Division.

He began his career as an apprentice mechanical technician with Oxford Instruments, completing his training in 2007. Steve then joined the CLF in 2009, working as part of a team to build and commission the Artemis facility. In 2010, after successfully completing his engineering degree, Steve began work as a mechanical design engineer within the CLF, working on both facility development work and the experimental programmes for Artemis and the High-Power Laser Division.

In October 2019, Steve took over management of the Mechanical Engineering Group, successfully coordinating their activities across the CLF. In 2024, Steve was appointed Chief Engineer and now manages and coordinates all aspects of engineering across the CLF.
