Esther is interested in applying advanced quantitative microscopy techniques to resolve the rapid cellular signals that occur in response to chemical and mechanical environmental cues; particularly, in how the plasma membrane and the actin cytoskeleton coordinate the first steps of signal transduction. She is also passionate about exploring novel applications and advancing the capabilities of fluorescence microscopy. She is dedicated to making these powerful imaging tools more accessible, aiming to make advanced fluorescence microscopy more widely available to the broader research community.

Esther joined the CLF in 2022. She leads the user applications for the Stimulated Emission Depletion (STED) microscope. Prior to joining STFC, Esther worked as a postdoc at the Beatson Institute (CRUK) applying fluorescence microscopy to the study of the spatiotemporal dynamics of signalling molecules in cancer and immunological cellular models. Before that, she worked in STED microscopy and quantitative fluorescence microscopy at the University of Oxford and at STFC. Esther obtained her BA degree in Biology at the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, Spain, where she also earned her PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology, before moving to the UK.
