Sayantan Bhattacharya

Instrument Scientist at ULTRA Facility

Sayantan obtained his PhD in Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, India in 2019, spectroscopy and nonlinear optical characterization of carbon-based 2D materials and semiconductors. Following this, he moved to the University of Sheffield for a postdoctoral position, where he worked with novel functionalized porphyrins using several spectroscopic methods, including femtosecond to millisecond transient absorption and time-resolved photoluminescence. He later worked as a postdoc at Imperial College London, where he contributed to developing an impulsive transient absorption setup, participated in serial femtosecond crystallography measurements, and researched the bioenergetics of super-red chlorophyll f PSII complexes.

Sayantan started work as one of the Instrument Scientists at Ultra in the summer 2024 to support the Facility’s operations and expertise.
