Martin Tolley

Target Fabrication Group Leader Emeritus

Martin joined CLF Target Fabrication Group in 2001 and became Group Leader in 2004. He established world-class Microtarget Fabrication at CLF by developing staff across a wide range of microtechnology skills working in a bespoke, cleanroom Facility housing a complex and integrated suite of target microfabrication and characterisation equipment.

Target Fabrication continually produced, and continues to produce, an extensive range of microtargets enabling High Power Laser experiments on the CLF’s lasers as well as external facilities. In 2009, in response to demand form the HPL community, Chris oversaw the formation of the microtargetry spinout company Scitech Precision Ltd. Because CLF has been at the forefront of high repetition rate, high power lasers the TF Group has developed and patented world-first HRR Targetry systems incorporating advances in both high rate microtarget production and rapid precision positioning.

Research interests: micro and nano physics scaling relevant to microtargetry, targetry for inertial fusion energy, high repetition rate targetry
