Chris Armstrong

Principal Detector Scientist

PhD from University of Strathclyde titled “Bremsstrahlung radiation and fast-electron transport in laser-plasma interactions”. Chris joined the CLF as staff in 2018, focusing on X-ray detectors and diagnostics for EPAC. He’s now responsible for the design and delivery of hard radiation diagnostics across the facility.

Laser-driven sources and applications, direct-laser-acceleration, scintillators and detectors.

Near-100 MeV protons via a laser-driven transparency-enhanced hybrid acceleration scheme

Multimillijoule coherent terahertz bursts from picosecond laser-irradiated metal foils

Laser-driven x-ray and neutron source development for industrial applications of plasma accelerators
