What to do upon arrival

You must go to RAL reception with a valid, in-date photo identification. Access to RAL site will not be permitted without valid photo ID.

Accepted forms of photo ID are:

  • UK or foreign passport
  • UK or foreign driving licence
  • EU/EEA National Identity Card
  • UK PASS Card
  • UK Biometric Residence Permit
  • MOD 90, Government ID or Warrant Card
  • STFC or UKRI Issued Photo Pass

General visitors

Before arrival

If you are coming as a user for an experiment, you must complete all the online safety tests before arrival. Please be aware be aware your entry onto site will be delayed if they are not completed.

Safety training

Arrival during normal working hours

For arrival during normal working hours, please:

  • ensure your visit request, safety tests, and emergency contact details are complete
  • check-in at the User Office in the Main Reception building (R75) to get your pass

Normal working hours for the user office are 8am to 4pm from Monday to Thursday, and 8am to 3pm on Friday.

Arrival out of hours

For arrival out of hours, please:

  • inform the User Office if you plan to arrive out of hours
  • ensure your visit request, any required safety tests, and emergency contact details are complete
  • report to the security lodge in the Main Reception building (R75) to obtain your site pas

If you are visiting as a non-user, such as for a tour or an event, showing your ID at reception is all you need to do on the day.

Before your arrival, your CLF or RAL contact will ask you for any necessary details, such as your car registration and any accessibility requirements.

Please note that any visits must be scheduled ahead of time via a member of staff. RAL site does not allow drop-in visits.
